Diagnosis and Choices of Therapy (Case Study 1)

Mrs WL, a 70-year-old Chinese woman, reports to her General Physician because she has been feeling very tired. Mrs WL informs her GP that she has been getting out of breath when walking up stairs which she never had any problem with in the past. On examination, Mrs WL has pallor of the skin, conjunctiva and nail beds and brittle nails. Mrs WL is a strict vegetarian. The GP performs a blood count and the results show that she has clinical diagnosis anemia.

What is the pathophysiology of anemia based on her case?
What is (are) the drug(s) of choice for this case? Justify.
As a pharmacist, what are the important points to counsel to Mrs WL?
